Please see a list of common questions below for those interested in medical cannabis certification.  This list will change periodically as Kentucky guidelines are updated. 

What medical conditions qualify?

Any type of cancer; chronic or severe pain; epilepsy or other intractable seizure disorder; multiple sclerosis, muscle spasms or spasticity; chronic nausea or cyclical vomiting syndrome; post-traumatic stress disorder.

 

Conditions such as glaucoma, anxiety, opioid use disorder are not currently covered conditions in Kentucky. 

Who can qualify for medical cannabis in Kentucky?

Any resident of Kentucky who has a qualifying medical condition AND who has no disqualifying felony offense convictions.

Underage residents must have an eligible caregiver.

Who can certify my qualifying medical condition?

You can receive certification at Heartland Medical Cannabis Health & Wellness.  Any medical providers providing medical certifications must become a licensed medical cannabis practitioner.

​

Not all medical providers are licensed medical cannabis practitioners as this designation requires special licensure.

How do I get a medical cannabis card?

1. Obtain medical certification from a licensed medical cannabis practitioner beginning December 2024. 

2. Submit an application online to the Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis beginning January 1st, 2025  

3. Receive an application decision from the Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis and download a registry ID card

Can I use my insurance, HSA or FSA for medical certification?

Insurance is not accepted at this time.  To check eligibility of using HSA or FSA cards for certification you should contact your individual HSA or FSA customer service department to ask if this is a qualified purchase.
